Matt Richter: A Proven Leader for Parry Sound-Muskoka

For nearly two decades, Matt Richter has been a dedicated advocate for the people of Parry Sound-Muskoka. As a public school teacher, entrepreneur, husband, and father of three, he understands the challenges families face and has worked tirelessly to address them. His commitment to the community has made him a familiar and trusted figure, known for his integrity, passion, and hands-on approach to leadership.

Matt’s deep roots in the community shape his values. Growing up, his grandparents had a cottage near Gravenhurst, where he developed a deep love for the region. After high school, he made Muskoka his permanent residence while he attended University. Shortly after starting his teaching career he met his wife, Kailey. Together, they built a life here, raising their three children in an active, outdoors-focused household. Whether coaching hockey and soccer, organizing a trail-running series that brought athletes from across the region, or volunteering at local events, Matt has always stepped up to support his community–leading initiatives that bring people together to strengthen Parry Sound-Muskoka.

As a longtime activist, Matt has fought to keep schools and hospitals open in Almaguin, Parry Sound, and Muskoka. He has been a passionate advocate for attainable housing solutions, support for small businesses—the backbone of rural communities—and local environmental protections to secure a sustainable future. His ability to build relationships and collaborate across political lines has been a driving force behind his advocacy.

Since first running as the Green Party candidate in 2007, Matt has grown the local movement from a small team of volunteers and 10% of the vote to over 400 volunteers and just over 40% of the vote in the last election. In 2022, he came within a few points of winning, securing victories in key towns like Gravenhurst, Parry Sound, Bracebridge, and Huntsville. Now, he’s stepping up again—because this riding deserves a representative who listens, takes action, and puts people first.

Taking a leave from teaching at Riverside Public School in Huntsville, Matt has dedicated himself full-time to this campaign. He knows that with Doug Ford and the PCs calling a snap election, Parry Sound-Muskoka needs an MPP who will fight for real solutions. He’s committed to tackling the housing affordability crisis, lowering the cost of living, improving healthcare and education, and strengthening local economies.

Matt is ready to be a strong, independent voice at Queen’s Park—one who answers to the people of Parry Sound-Muskoka, not party leaders. Unlike other parties where MPPs must follow orders, Greens vote independently, ensuring Matt will always put this community first. Just like he’s done for the past 17 years, he’ll continue listening, advocating, and fighting for fairness.

For Matt Richter, this election isn’t about gimmicks or political games—it’s about building a better future for Parry Sound-Muskoka, together.
