Local Voices, Real Change: Community Action with Matt

What has Matt been up to?

Matt has been out front—connecting with local organizations, attending events, and working closely with partners at Queen’s Park—to make sure the voices of Parry Sound–Muskoka are heard loud and clear. Here’s a quick look at what he’s been up to lately!

📜 Megaschool Petition, Read Twice
The petition to stop the K–12 megaschool in Parry Sound has now been read in the Ontario Legislature by Mike Schreiner not once, but twice. This top-down decision still flies in the face of community input—and we’re not backing down.

🗑️ Municipal Waste & Full Landfills
Matt was invited to speak at the Municipal Waste Association’s spring conference at Deerhurst, where he shared our local perspective on waste management. He’s now digging into the District of Muskoka’s Waste Strategy—because the truth is, our landfills could be full in just 14 years. That’s not someone else’s problem. It’s ours to solve together.

🫶 Listening to Local Leaders
Matt continues meeting with organizations across Parry Sound–Muskoka—like Hospice Huntsville, CMHA, Community Living, and more—to make sure the voices of care providers, frontline staff, and local champions are heard loud and clear.

🌱 Greens in the Community

This spring has been all about showing up and standing together.

💚 Volunteer Appreciation
We gathered with some of our amazing volunteers to celebrate the people behind this movement. Your dedication during the snap 2025 provincial election was nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for everything you do!

📣 Bill 5 Town Hall
We hosted a packed Community Town Hall to talk about Bill 5—and the Ford government’s plan to carve up Ontario into “special economic zones” with little to no local input. Mike Schreiner joined Matt and pulled no punches in calling out this dangerous power grab and outlined what we can do next.

🐸Almaguin Green Fair
Our friends in Almaguin hosted the 2nd annual Almaguin Green Fair in Magnetawan on June 14. The event featured everything from electric tools and vehicles, to going fully off-grid, energy efficient building techniques, tackling invasive plant species, and even worm farming! There was no shortage of expertise and inspiration. What a powerful reminder that “it’s easy to be Green-er” when we come together as a community! 🌿
