HUNTSVILLE, ON – Matt Richter released the following statement on investing in rural infrastructure as part of his 5-Point Plan to fight for the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka.
“Strong communities need strong foundations. We need stable, long-term investments in our roads, bridges, and internet infrastructure—not just short-term fixes.” – Matt Richter
Across Parry Sound–Muskoka, crumbling infrastructure and unreliable internet access are holding communities back. Small municipalities are struggling with unpredictable funding, and local roads and bridges need urgent repairs. At the same time, a lack of rural transit options and slow progress on broadband expansion continue to leave families and businesses disconnected.
Doug Ford’s government has failed to deliver the reliable, long-term support that rural communities need to grow and thrive. In fact, they have further downloaded responsibility for housing and infrastructure to municipalities, who have to increase taxes or cut other programs, as a result.
Matt Richter and the Ontario Greens will:
- Invest in roads, bridges, and transit so communities can grow safely and sustainably.
- Provide municipalities with stable, long-term funding—not short-term band-aid solutions.
- Expand high-speed internet access with a commitment to universal broadband by 2030, ensuring no family or business is left behind.
- Support rural transit expansion by funding on-demand and intercommunity transit options to connect people to jobs, healthcare, and services.
- Strengthen climate-resilient infrastructure by upgrading stormwater systems, preventing flood risks, and ensuring roads and bridges can withstand extreme weather.
The Ontario Greens have a bold plan to empower rural communities with the resources they need to thrive. Matt is committed to pushing for reliable funding and forward-thinking policies that support long-term prosperity.
“We can’t afford to keep patching things up year after year. It’s time for real investment in the future of our communities.” – Matt Richter
